Religion

Politics is second only to religion as the motivation for some of the great horrors perpetrated by man upon his fellow man.  It's the one subject about which almost everyone has an opinion.  However, like politics, I've never found differences in religion strong enough motivation for the failure to treat others with respect.  Let it be known here that if I have to give myself a label, it would be Christian.  My wife would call herself Muslim.  So, I speak here with a little understanding of differences.  :)

First and foremost, there IS a God.  There is good and evil.  While I know there are those who do not believe in God, and those who think that God is some fairytale, I must say that I put people like that in the same category as flat-earthers, those who think the moon landings were faked and those who think the CIA killed Kennedy.  I can't even begin a basic conversation about religion with those kinds of people because they don't begin from a foundation in reality.

My position is not, like so many people, based on what my parent's taught me growing up.  I was reared Christian, but I am knowledgeable and informed about other religions.  My choice about what to believe and what I tell others is based on a dream I had in 1999.  In that dream, "the truth" about God was made known to me in a way that is difficult to describe and I have tried - often failing - to adhere to the teachings of Christ since that time.

The Bible says that we should fear God and keep His commandments.  It also tells us to love the Lord with all of our heart and all of our soul and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.  If you get nothing else from any religious text, those few nuggets would suffice.  Adhering to those principles would ensure that you never kill anyone.  It would ensure that you are never mean to anyone.  It would go a long way to making you, those around you and the world itself a better place.  What I CAN say is that NO religion in the world requires or asks you to kill in the name of god.  I used the small "g" there so that you would understand that God for sure makes it clear that you are not to kill.  Those who claim to kill in the name of god get the small "g" so they understand that they are whack nuts!  This applies to crazy people we refer to as Muslim extremist, and equally crazy people we call Christians.  Those who hijacked the planes on 9/11 are no better than the Dylann Roofs of the world.   They are also no better than the Jews still hunting down the Nazi's and killing them.  They are all murderers and religious nut jobs.  Thou shalt not kill ends with a period, not an unless.
